Wet Rooms

What is a Wet Room?

The wet room has an open shower area which flows into the rest of the room, thus making them suitable for both small and large rooms, giving an illusion of space through their open plan nature.

A wet room is much more versatile than a shower cubicle or enclosure and gives you more control when designing your bathroom. The wet room concept allows the showering area to blend naturally with the rest of the room.

Creating a wet room is a technical challenge. The floor must slope gently towards the waste outlet with a gentle and consistent gradient, and must be water tight.

Wet rooms look stunning; however, it is imperative that they are correctly fitted to ensure that they are fully water tight.  Due to the work involved it is not really an option if you are on a tight budget.

The whole room will need to be watertight; the technical term is “tanking”

High quality materials used to ensure longer life and a leak-free operation

Floor will need to be raised about 5 cm to accommodate waste fittings and will need to incorporate a slight slope towards the waste outlet.

An extractor fan will need to be fitted as it is important to allow the room to dry out, under floor heating is also another option you may also wish to consider giving that warm glow under foot

Wall hung toilet and sinks adds to the spacious feel and frees up the floor

Why not consider ‘body jets’ and movable ‘handsets’ aswell as fixed head

You may want to add a frosted screen to save all your bathroom fittings being sprayed with water

If a wet room sounds to expensive or complicated then the simpler option would be a ‘walk in shower’ a compromise between the wet room option and a fully enclosed shower cubicle for another relaxing alternative.

Wet rooms are relatively old concepts in parts of Europe but are fast becoming the latest trend in bathroom design here.
With today’s lifestyle, more and more of us are looking for ways to relax and unwind within the comfort of our own homes.

The restyling of our bathrooms and making them into our own private hideaways can create that other space where we can relax and unwind.

These bathrooms not only become stunning focal points but also add real value to our homes.
